M.P. Jaime Battiste Releases Candidacy for the Liberal Party of Canada in Cape Breton-Canso-Antigonish

Thank you, Merci, Welal‘in,

I am pleased to announce that I will be running as the Liberal Party of Canada’s Candidate in Cape Breton-Canso-Antigonish.

While it's been a difficult month with the recent and sudden loss of one of our team members and my close friend, I was thankful to have so much support - especially from my community to help rally through this difficult time. During this time, I had the opportunity to reflect, which has made me realize the love for my community, our province, our country and the important responsibility I have in representing them.  During these important moments in our history, it is more critical than ever to continue to fight against those who would threaten to annex or harm Canada.

It’s also important to fight against those who believe our country is broken and this a pivotal time for us to unite as a nation, and as Liberals to come together and face the challenges of today that are impacting our communities, businesses, and economy. It’s more important than ever for us to unite and work together under the leadership of Mark Carney – and I am ready to get to work for you!

Being the only Member of Parliament who lives on a First Nations Community, I’m proud of the unique voice and understanding I bring to Indigenous issues. I am blessed to be part of the Mi’kmaw First Nations Community of Eskasoni. I have been a champion of their issues and all Indigenous issues in Canada since I was elected in 2019. It would be an honor to continue our hard work and to be an advocate where I live and for all of Cape Breton, which is now in the new Cape-Breton-Canso-Antigonish riding.

We are stronger together, from the five First Nations communities, to the Acadians’ in Chéticamp, to the towns on both side of Canso Causeway, Inverness, Baddeck, Antigonish, and more. I want to be your member of Parliament and continue to deliver the investments and advancements that our Liberal government has already made in this area. I want to be a champion of your issues and to be a strong voice and advocate for the diverse and important needs of all residents of our riding.

Let’s work together to unite and make these unique communities stronger together - Canada Strong!

Wela’lioq Msit No’kmaq, Thanks to all my relations, Merci à toutes mes relations,
